The owner wants the designer to design a house that separates privacy into two parts, which are the father’s house and the owner’s own house, which consists of husband, wife and two children. However, they can share a common area such as living room, dining room, kitchen and a workout room. There is a need for a multi-purpose building to be used as a private office separated from the house.
The design approach began with an evaluating the physical characteristics of the site, which has a trapezoidal shape. The front of site is adjacent to the road in the village, facing north. The long site of land is facing east adjacent to the land owned by the owner himself. The west is adjacent to a village community, and the south is adjacent to an 8-story condominium.
From this environment, there is an idea to design a house with a central courtyard to create a view with privacy by creating a zone for the owner’s house in the front of the property. The central courtyard is encircled by the house. The entrance of the house has a hallway that connected a one-story multi-purpose building with a common area consisting of a living room, dining room and a kitchen. From this zone, one can walk to the owner’s house, where a library and living room are located on the ground floor, and bedrooms and a workspace on the second floor.
The mass of the common area is a double volume in which it divides the house into 2 sections. The hallway on the ground floor, which can be connected to the back courtyard, which is a space for the house of the owner’s father. It consists of living-dining room, a master bedroom for the owner’s father and a room prepared to be nurse’s room in the future right next to the master bedroom. The building at the back courtyard is connected in U-shaped with service area consists of laundry and storage room in that back.
There is a staircase and an elevator to the second floor located in the hallway on the ground floor. The 2nd floor hallway connects to the common area, which consists of a sanctum, the owner’s master bedroom and children’s bedrooms parallelled to the back courtyard. The 2nd floor walkway has a connecting space that can oversee the common area on the ground floor, which are a living and dining room. People on the second floor can see the activity from the common area on the ground floor while still having their own privacy.
The building has a characteristic of a box that is connected to form a central court. It has a modern style with a slab roof. Eaves are designed in steel structure covered with aluminum composite which makes it look modern. Glass walls are inserted with wood grain slats and natural stone to create a warm, relax and livelier house.
